Lessons
The Piano School of Fort Atkinson teaches six introductory levels of lessons offered in a group format, building skills from the ground up for students of any age to feel confident about learning to play the piano.
Unique to our classes is the use of an interactive curriculum that allows students to direct their own progression through scored points and the ability to unlock new songs and levels, after previous music is mastered. Students are given the immersive experience of playing along with digital backing tracks, synching songs while visually tracking notes in their piano book — all while experiencing the fun of playing alongside their peers.
A foundation for harmony and theory is seamlessly laid throughout the curriculum, and which divides each group class into two sessions: Assessment Time, which lets students play songs practiced at home, followed by Discovery Time, in which new concepts are introduced and practiced before students leave their lesson, empowering them to know what to do at home.
In utilizing an interactive app as well as a group learning format, instruction offers training in appreciation of classical and contemporary music, helping students to develop creativity through the opportunity to play in ensembles, with many chances to shine in studio recitals showcasing group skills.
Students may begin lessons at any time of the year. Our school’s curriculum is self-paced and allows for students to join classes by progressing at their own pace through each of the six introductory levels. While students can move ahead through songs as quickly as they can unlock new songs after achieving rhythm and note accuracy, lesson design ensures that the core concepts of each level help students understand the music they are progressing on to.
After completing all six levels, students are able to begin private lessons. Instruction at that point segues into musicianship that builds improvisation and songwriting skills via solo or group creative projects, or students also have the option to focus on classical training, and become a part of The Royal Conservatory Certificate Program — an worldwide program of music study providing structured learning and assessment. As with the introductory levels taught at our school, students can continue to progress through this program at their own pace, while achieving international standards of recognition.
Our school is excited to offer lessons within the scope of what industry changes have been made possible through technology and the introduction of the study of piano with group classes. The landscape of private lessons has changed over the years, while music remains an organic connection we all share through the expression of local artistry. We teach students to teach themselves, while fostering the social connection between their peers and the arts.
